Son chapeau est recouvert d&rsquo;\u00e9cailles brunes ou noir\u00e2tre appliqu\u00e9es sur la surface, et qui s&rsquo;enl\u00e8vent lorsqu&rsquo;on les frotte, ou sous l&rsquo;effet de la pluie. C&rsquo;est un bon crit\u00e8re pour d\u00e9terminer la fra\u00eecheur des champignons. Contrairement \u00e0 d&rsquo;autres champignons poussant aussi sur le bois et avec lesquels on pourrait la confondre, l&rsquo;armillaire a une spor\u00e9e blanche. Par contre, la couleur de son chapeau est tr\u00e8s variable et ne constitue pas un bon crit\u00e8re de reconnaissance.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-gallery has-nested-images columns-default
